Making Music Around The World

Recently I made the trip of a lifetime, to Africa, where I performed in the bustling capital of Bamako, Mali with some of the most talented singers and musicians on the planet.  The music of Mali is a special art, unlike any other in the world, and it was my privilege to be surrounded by the wonderful people and culture of this faraway place.  I collaborated extensively the first week I was there with Sory Ibrahim Diabité (vocalist), Michele Traoré (vocalist), Chris Jaeger (drummer/percussionist), Suleyman Keíta and Muhammed Keíta (percussionists).  From this weeklong workshop we put together over 11 pieces of music, including “Nenna”, the haunting and beautiful song, whose name in Bambara means ‘mother,’ written by Sory and myself.  Music is the great translator when we sing to listen.  Please check out some of these songs on the music page.
