“Ani Sou”

 (“Good Day” in Bambara)

Michele and I performed this traditional song as part of our collaboration performance following a week-long musical workshop.  She asked me to write some lyrics in english.  The song is very heroic and speaks of the difficulties of the day, but with dignity in facing those challenges, and the magical ability of the Malian heart, to see beauty in a good day,  no matter how hard the struggle.  The audience was incredibly appreciative to hear their song with an english interpretation and forgave me my need to glance at my notes.
